Police responded to a report of a sexual assault near 617 Main St., where they found a 47-year-old woman who told officers she had been stopped by a man who identified himself as a federal officer, before taking her behind the building and sexually assaulting her, Det. Lt. Matt Clark said.
A short while later, officers stopped Harold Bruno, 24, who matched the victim's description, and was later identified by the victim, Clark added.
Bruno was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree criminal impersonation, both felony charges, police said.
He was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail. Anyone with information is asked to call 845-451-7577.
