After a couple of fender-benders, the officers shut down access to Route 216 from Route 52 in the mid-afternoon Sunday.
But dozens of determined flea fans (such as this writer), did an end run and got onto Route 216 from a different road.
Nevertheless, it took about two hours to get from the Taconic State Parkway to the flea market.
The entrance to the main gate was closed and the first lot looked full around 3 p.m., but motorists were directed to drive to the very end of the huge field where there was plenty of parking.
Meanwhile, a drone was seen hovering over the grounds and members of a production crew from HGTV were interviewing people about their treasures as the flea wound down in the late afternoon.
The traffic was the talk of the event, but some antiques and bargain buffs were heard to say that the struggle to get there was worth it. Others were expressing frustration on social media sites that they couldn't get in after traveling long distances and sitting in traffic for hours.
The next flea market at Stormville is May 28-29.
