Routine Hudson Valley Traffic Stop Turns Up Loaded Gun, Lands NC Passenger In Jail: Police
A routine traffic stop in the Hudson Valley led to the arrest of a visiting man on two felony charges, police said.
Jayvon E. Ward, 21, of Charlotte, NC, was the passenger in a 2017 Nissan Sentra traveling on Route 212 in Saugerties on Thursday, Oct. 7 when state troopers stopped the car around 8:15 p.m. for multiple traffic violations, according to New York State Police.
Investigators found Ward in the vehicle with a loaded handgun and a large capacity ammunition magazine, state police said.

A Hudson Valley woman stole nearly $4,500 from her employer over several months, police said Thursday, Oct. 8.
Denah R. Stratton, 35, of Ellenville, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 6 for swiping from the Tops Friendly Market where she worked, New York State Police said.
Stratton took $4,456 across several months of employment, according to investigators.

A former United States Postal Service worker who was caught on surveillance video shoving a 4-year-old boy to the ground in Rockland County has pleaded guilty and received his sentence, according to reports.
Stony Point resident Gabriel Stan, 39, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and was sentenced to three years of probation, six weeks of anger management classes, and a $1,000 fine, The Monsey Scoop reported.

A Pennsylvania police officer whose death was initially described as a “sudden medical emergency” was strangled to death during a fight, investigators now say.
Michael “Mike” McGeehan, 44, a longtime Middlesex Township police officer and father of five, died following an altercation with 25-year-old Paden Edward Frey on July 11, according to the Lycoming Regional Police Department.

A driver was taken to the hospital after a single-vehicle rollover crash in Putnam County Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 7, fire officials said.
