Nassau Dogfighter Busted With 1,100 Fentanyl Pills, Loaded Gun Gets Prison Time: Prosecutors
After a dogfighting operation and 1,000 fentanyl pills were discovered at a Long Island man’s home, he was sentenced Tuesday, July 21 to prison time, authorities said.
Kevin Brown, 39, of Hempstead, got seven years and six months after cutting a plea deal back in June, the Nassau County District Attorney’s office said.
“This defendant had enough fentanyl in his home to kill tens of thousands of people, but his stockpile of dangerous drugs was just the tip of the iceberg,” District Attorney Anne Donnelly said.

Two Busy Lirr Branches To Close Over Weekend, MTA Says — See The Details
Major chances to Long Island Rail Road service are coming for the weekend of Friday, July 24 into Monday, July 27, according to the MTA.
The Oyster Bay Branch and the Hempstead Branch will be shut down entirely, with Hempstead trains stopping at 8 p.m. Friday and Oyster Bay trains stopping at 10 p.m., the MTA announced.
Additionally, Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branch trains will only run from Hicksville to points east, with no service to Jamaica Station.
Normal service will resume at 4:30 a.m. Monday, July 27, according to the MTA.

A Long Island man stole another person’s identity, opened a bank account, and swiped $5,000 earlier this year, police said.
Justin Kopperl, 28, of Holtsville, used the money to rent cars, deposit false checks, and send money through CashApp, the Suffolk County Police Department said Monday, July 20. The victim in the case had lost their wallet prior to the fraud, according to investigators.
The victim, a Bay Shore man, contacted police on May 6 after realizing a bank account had been opened in his name without his knowledge, cops said. Authorities traced the activity to Kopperl.

A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death during an altercation in New York, and a 20-year-old man has been charged with murder, police announced early Tuesday morning, July 21.
The victim, identified as Timothy Stark, who was undomiciled, was stabbed in the back during a confrontation on Express Drive South at Route 112 in Medford at approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 20, Suffolk County Police said. A Long Island contractor was arrested after police say he accepted payment for home renovations but stopped work before the project was finished, leaving a Stony Brook homeowner without the services she paid for, Suffolk County Police said in a release issued Monday, July 20.

A New York man who was arrested twice in Connecticut last month is back in custody after police said he was wanted on new charges tied to a vicious domestic incident.
Christopher Douglas Hassel, 42, of Syosset, New York, was arrested on an active warrant by the New Canaan Police Department earlier this month, authorities said.
