The installation of these high-powered lights and the repainting of the safety lines on the road surface will hopefully reduce the number of accidents that have occurred in the past few years in which vehicles turned accidentally from Congers Road onto the railroad tracks instead of turning onto North Rockland Avenue, police said.

The department said it would like to thank Orange & Rockland Utilities, especially Kate Wysokowski and Teri Johnson, for its part in getting the job done in a short amount of time.

"This is a step in the right direction to ensure the safety of all traveling this busy area of town," the department said.
