Trust To Get $400,000 From Upper Nyack, Clarkstown To Save Marydell Site

Hopes of saving a prime piece of property overlooking the Hudson in Upper Nyack from developers were boosted this week when a Rockland County town and village promised to help buy it, according to a report on lohud.com.

The Trust for Public Land says that, with a $400,000 boost from two Rockland communities, it will be able to buy 30 acres from the Marydell Life and Faith Center in Nyack and keep it out of the hands of developers.

Clarkstown and the village of Upper Nyack said they would find $400,000 to add to the Trust for Public Land’s coffers so it could buy 30 acres belonging to an order of Catholic nuns in the village, the lohud report said.

According to a report in The New York Times, conservationists are anxious to save the Marydell Faith and Life Center property because of its proximity to three state parks.

The trust, a nonprofit group, said that -- with Clarkstown's and Upper Nyack's contributions -- it now has the $3.1 million to buy the land, the lohud article said.

Once purchased, the land will be turned over to the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, The New York Times said.
