But it's not often a coywolf is spotted.
A coywolf (also known as woyote or Western coyote) is a canid hybrid descended from coyotes and gray wolves and one was seen and photographed Monday morning in Rockland County.
The Clarkstown Police Department said the coywolf was spotted in Congers.
Coywolves, on average, weigh between 30 and 45 pounds.
If you see one and are outside, police recommend making noise, and say it's important not to feed them or other animals, noting that even if you are feeding birds, other animals such as raccoons and coyotes will be attracted to your yard just like any other animal looking for an easy handout.
It's also important to share this info with neighbors, as police note that coyotes travel tremendous distances and a coyote regularly coming to your neighbor’s yard for a free handout will surely pass through your yard to get there.
