On Friday afternoon, the subcontractor was installing electrical systems on a catwalk at Pier 38 when he suffered a minor ankle sprain, according to Tappan Zee Constructors spokesman Damien LaVera.
Due to the “tricky” location of the incident, local first responders were dispatched to the scene to help get the man onto the main deck during a “technical rescue.” The subcontractor is reportedly in the custody of paramedics.
“This was a routine and precautionary step taken, consistent with our standard safety protocols,” LaVera said on behalf of TZC in a statement. “We appreciate the swift and professional response by the local first responders.”
