Graduates Complete Behavioral-Health Peer Training To Help Rockland Vets

NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Rockland Independent Living Center, based in New City, will celebrate the sixth graduating class of the center's Military Behavioral Health Training Program on Saturday, April 30.

The ceremony will be in the Keller Army Community Hospital at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The program is for mentors involved with the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program.

These are the graduates:

The following individuals will receive certificates for providing training throughout the course:

  • Paige G. Stetson LPC, LMHC Instructor 
  • Lt. Sharon Gingola, MA, LMSW 

The Instructors are responsible for the instructional content of the training, quality of presentation of information and sharing their life stories as they apply to the Military Behavioral Health Training Program. 

The goal of the peer program is to match veterans who have been through the training program with veterans who have returned from service so they can take steps to reduce or even eliminate the negative impact that trauma-related symptoms have on social, occupational and family functioning. 

The Joseph P. Dwyer Peer-to-Peer Mentoring program is free, confidential, and provides veterans with a safe place to share in a non-judgmental setting. 

The program also offers services specific to women veterans and referrals for a variety of services.
