Anger over an unflattering news article prompted a man to threaten to kill a New York reporter and her family, federal prosecutors alleged. Austin Suman, age 35, now residing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was charged in Westchester County with making a threat involving an explosive and related charges in White Plains federal court. Prosecutors said Suman contacted a Hudson Valley reporter based in Orange County via Facebook messenger on Friday, Nov. 8, threatening to “end” the woman’s family. A Hudson Valley man is facing years in prison after pleading guilty to selling drugs and guns throughout the area using a food truck. Orange County resident Kirkland Salmon, age 42, of Newburgh, pleaded guilty in Orange County Court to criminal possession of a controlled substance, sale of a firearm, and conspiracy on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Under the plea agreement, the Orange County District Attorney's Office will recommend that he be sentenced to 12 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced in December. A 63-year-old man was shot once by a New York State trooper after he allegedly drove toward a police officer at a high rate of speed after threatening them with a gun. The incident occurred in Sullivan County around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, at two locations on Route 97. A food truck is at the center of a significant drug and gun takedown in the Hudson Valley that resulted in 26 arrests.
