EAST RAMAPO, N.Y. – The East Ramapo Board of Education appointed 28-year-old Sabrina Charles-Pierre to fill a vacancy on the school board, according to LoHud.com.

Juan Pablo Ramirez and the other two members of his slate had won against Charles-Pierre and the two members of slate back in May. Ramirez left after approximately a month, leaving a vacancy, lohud.com reported.

Charles-Pierre will have to run for the seat in May if she wants to retain it, according to lohud.com.

The East Ramapo School Board is composed mainly of Orthodox Jewish Men, and has cut educational programs and hundreds of jobs in recent years to slash costs and keep down property taxes. The board’s decisions have caused dissension between the public school community and the religious community, which relies mainly on private schools, lohud.com said.
