A woman was fatally struck by a vehicle at a Long Island intersection, police said.

A woman was crossing the street in North Lawrence on the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 12 when she was fatally struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, police said.

It happened on Tuesday, Dec. 12 in North Lawrence.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m., the victim was walking north, crossing Burnside Avenue at Washington when she was hit, according to Nassau County Police.

The car did not stop and fled the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. She suffered severe trauma.

Neither her age nor identity have been released.

Detectives said the investigation is ongoing.
