A man who was hit by a car while attempting to cross a Long Island street is in critical condition while police search for the perpetrator. The incident happened in Roslyn Heights on Monday, Jan. 1, according to Nassau County Police. It was just before 5:15 p.m. when the victim, a 91-year-old man, started to cross Mineola Avenue near the intersection of Hillside Avenue when he was hit. A Long Island driver who hit a man and drove away, leaving him on the street, has been arrested, police said. The incident occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 26 in Uniondale. According to Nassau County Police, 68-year-old Robert Hauswald was driving his gray 2001 Mercury when, just before 7:30 p.m., he struck a man near the intersection of Front Street and Maple Avenue.
