2 Young Girls Die In Apparent Drowning At Long Island Pond
Police on Long Island are investigating the deaths of two young girls — ages 2 and 4 — who are believed to have drowned in a pond behind an apartment complex, authorities said. The girls were found behind the Fairfield Townhouses at Holtsville at 2 Victorian Court in Holtsville on Saturday, Sept. 7, the Suffolk County Police Department said. A family member called 911 around 3:15 p.m. to report the girls missing. Police found their bodies in the pond a few minutes after they arrived at the scene. A resident was killed in a Long Island house fire. The blaze broke out just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 in Bay Shore. Artemio Gonzalez, age 77, had been removed from the house by a family member, a good Samaritan and a Suffolk County PD Third Precinct officer. Gonzalez was transported to South Shore Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead, police said. Emergency crews in Southampton were called to a North Haven residence on Sunset Beach Road for a 2-year-old boy found floating in a pool at around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7.
