Thousands of Long Island residents are without power as Tropical Storm Isaias brings whipping winds and rain to the region, toppling trees limbs and power lines.
PSEG Long Island was reporting 272 outages impacting 4,327 customers who were without power just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Of the outages, 3,751 of PSEG’s 488,488 Nassau County customers were without power, while 495 of the utility company’s 637,959 in Suffolk were without power.
In Nassau, 1,497 customers in North Hempstead were reporting outages, along with 1,353 in Hempstead, and 901 in Oyster Bay.
In Suffolk, outages were reported in Smithtown (164), Babylon (159), Brookhaven (116), Islip (41), Huntington (nine), and East Hampton (six).
According to PSEG, complete restoration is currently expected by 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
“Long Island and the Rockaways are under a Tropical Storm warning and Isaias has been escalating in strength, with the potential to cause a significant number of power outages,” PSEG stated. “We now anticipate that this storm may be one of the strongest to reach our area in years and some outages could last for an extended period.”
