An elderly Long Island man was abused by his live-in caretaker, who is now facing felony charges, police said Tuesday, May 12.
Michael Roopnarine, 63, of Queens, was hit with two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a vulnerable/elderly/incompetent/disabled person in connection with the incident, the Southampton Town Police Department said.
Officers responded around 6 p.m. Monday, May 11 to the victim’s home in Hampton Bays to investigate a physical abuse claim, authorities said. They arrived to find Roopnarine and the victim in the home.

A Long Island man is accused of stealing nearly half a million dollars from his employer over a five-year span, Suffolk County Police announced on Monday, May 11.
Anthony Ferguson, 37, of Holtsville, was arrested after an investigation revealed he allegedly deposited more than 200 checks from his employer into his personal bank account, totaling $443,841, according to Suffolk County Police.
The owner of a business on Frowein Road in East Moriches reported on Dec. 3, 2025, that an employee had embezzled money from the company between April 9, 2020, and Nov. 28, 2025, police said.

Two Long Island residents were arrested after detectives recovered cocaine and ketamine during a narcotics investigation at a home.
The investigation happened Friday, May 9, at 5:20 p.m. at 24 Garden Place in Merrick, where Nicholas Francis, 29, and Jaime Bunting, 27, were arrested without incident, Nassau County police said.
