Drugged Driver Strikes Bicyclist: Nassau County Police
A stationary bicyclist was critically injured when a Subaru struck him in a suspected drug-impaired crash on Long Island, police announced Saturday, Sept. 19.
The 31-year-old man was stopped on his bicycle near Nassau Expressway and Burnside Avenue in Inwood when he was hit at 10:11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, according to Nassau County Police.
A 2018 Subaru traveling east on Burnside Avenue struck the bicyclist, investigators said.
The driver remained at the scene, police said.

A widow is speaking out months after her husband of 42 years was beaten to death by the parents of a Walmart worker in Virginia, according to a brand-new report.
Josephine Atienza and her 77-year-old husband Bert Atienza went to a Walmart store near thei home in Virginia Beach, on June 7, when a 17-year-old employee nearly struck Josephine with a cart, the widow tells WKTR. Gambling Bust At Deli Leads To Owner, Customer Arrests, 10 Violations: Nassau County Police
A community complaint led to a gambling bust at a Long Island deli, where two people were arrested and 10 violations were issued, police announced Saturday, Sept. 19.
The bust happened at Galeanos Deli, located at 58 Albany Ave. in Amityville, at approximately 10:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
First Precinct Crime Unit officers conducted the inspection alongside the New York State Liquor Authority, Village of Amityville Fire Marshal, and Village of Amityville Building Inspector after receiving a complaint from the community, police said.

A suspect wanted for murder at a Long Island train station was captured in Pennsylvania and now faces charges in New York, authorities said.
Adrien Arocho, 24, of Bay Shore, NY, was arraigned Thursday, Sept. 17 in the killing of Yolandus Pratt, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
Arocho and a 17-year-old boy attacked Pratt at the Bay Shore Long Island Rail Road station around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, July 5, prosecutors said. Pratt, 34, also of Bay Shore, was found bleeding and unconscious at the scene by cops on patrol, according to authorities.

Meth-Fueled Driver Admits Causing Deadly Nassau County Car Crash: Authorities
A Long Island driver who killed a man in a crash while high on meth pleaded guilty Friday, Sept. 18, authorities said.
Cassandra Panetta, 41, of Plainview, admitted fault in the wreck that killed Steven Diamond in August 2025, the Nassau County District Attorney’s office said.
Panetta faces four to 12 years in prison at her sentencing hearing on Dec. 8 after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, and DWAI, authorities said.

Stephen Aylward, 63, of West Islip, was indicted Friday for the crash that killed Yusuf Gul, 27, on Thursday, June 25, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.

Jorge Alexander Huezo Villatoro, 35, of El Salvador, has been charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Tadeo Alvarado Chavez in Uniondale, the Nassau County Police Department said.
Alvarado Chavez, 40, of Roosevelt, was found dead near 979 Nassau Road in Uniondale around 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, police said.
