It’s A Boy! Stony Brook University Hospital Welcomes First Baby Of 2025
Samantha and Matthew Bruckenthal of East Northport welcomed their first child, Charlie, just hours into the new year at Stony Brook University Hospital, the hospital announced on Monday, Jan. 1.
Charlie, weighing 6 pounds, 4 ounces, was born at 3:16 a.m. and is the first baby of 2025 for the hospital. His delivery was assisted by Leah Kaufman, MD, Eliza Hammes, RN, and Vanessa Boser, RN, according to the release.
The newborn is already making waves in his family as the grandson of Patricia Bruckenthal, the Dean of the School of Nursing at Stony Brook University.

'We Need Your Help': Search Party Underway For Patchogue 14-Year-Old Missing 3 Weeks
Search efforts are ramping up for a 14-year-old Long Island girl who has been missing for over three weeks.
Emmarae Gervasi, 14, was last seen on Terrell Street in Patchogue at around 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, as Daily Voice reported.
On Tuesday, Dec. 24, her father Frank updated friends and relatives saying he still hadn’t seen the girl.
“Christmas Eve and hoping for a miracle. As the days roll on I miss her more and more every day,” he wrote on Facebook. “The questions and the what-ifs will drive you nuts.”

Humpback Whale Washes Ashore On Long Island
Authorities are investigating after a deceased whale washed ashore on Long Island.
The juvenile humpback whale was discovered in Long Beach, near Shore Road and Roosevelt Boulevard, early Monday morning, Dec. 30, Long Beach Police said.
Local, state, and federal agencies responded to the scene, which remained cordoned off to the public Thursday afternoon.
A necropsy was expected to be performed, after which the whale will be buried, police said.
“Please avoid the area to allow the various agencies to conduct their work,” the agency said.
