Car Falsely Reported Stolen In Orange County — And Owner Collected Insurance Payout, Cops Say
An Ulster County man is accused of falsely reporting his Dodge Charger stolen and collecting an insurance payout while still having the vehicle, police said.
Napanoch resident Yaakov A. Handler, 22, was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 28, following an investigation into a stolen vehicle report in Orange County dating back nearly two years, New York State Police announced on Friday, Oct. 30.
The case began on Dec. 27, 2024, when Handler reported a 2015 Dodge Charger stolen on Route 17 in Monroe, according to State Police.

A motorcyclist killed in a collision with a sedan on Route 30 in Pennsylvania has been identified, the coroner’s office announced Friday, Oct. 30.
Richard Pieper, 62, of Paradise, PA, originally of New York, was pronounced dead at the scene on Lincoln Highway at Simmontown Road in Salisbury Township, according to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office.
The crash happened around 3:53 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, emergency dispatchers said.
The coroner’s office responded at 4:56 a.m., and a coroner investigator pronounced Pieper dead, according to the release.
