Capital Region Man Shot By Police After Assuming 'Shooter’s Stance'
Albany Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting, leaving a man with non-life-threatening injuries and facing multiple charges, including gun possession and endangering children.
According to Megan Craft, a spokeswoman for the Albany Police, the incident occurred on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 150 Third Ave.
Craft said officers responded to reports of a person with a weapon inside the home after a witness reported seeing Luis Rivera, age 39, armed with a handgun.

A 12-year-old boy was killed, and an 11-year-old girl is in critical condition after falling through the ice on a Capital Region lake.
The incident occurred in Albany around 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at Washington Park Lake near the park's lake house.
According to Albany Police, police and firefighters located and rescued the girl. She was treated on scene and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for further treatment.

Temple Shooting: 28-Year-Old Federally Charged After Gunshots At NY Synagogue
The man accused of opening fire at a New York synagogue on the first day of Hanukkah has been federally charged.
Mufid Fawaz Alkhader, age 28, of Schenectady, appeared in Albany federal court on Friday, Dec. 8, where he was arraigned on one count of unlawfully possessing a firearm.
According to the criminal complaint, Alkhader approached Albany’s Temple Israel, located on New Scotland Avenue, at around 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7 armed with a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun.
He then fired the weapon twice into the air, prosecutors allege.

Customer Punches Pizza Driver, Steals Food Over Delivery Fee In Capital Region, Police Say
A suspect has been arrested in a violent robbery involving a pizza delivery driver in the region.
Nasir Shabazz, age 27, of Albany, was taken into custody Wednesday, Oct. 4, for allegedly attacking a female Domino’s delivery driver in August 2023.
According to Albany Police, the victim delivered pizza to Shabazz’ home near North Pearl Street and Livingston Avenue just before midnight on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
When she informed him of the delivery fee, he allegedly punched the woman in the face several times and stole the food.
