Dick's Closes $2.5B Foot Locker Deal In Major Sporting Goods Merger Dick's Sporting Goods has finalized its purchase of Foot Locker, creating a global sports retail giant with more than 3,200 stores in 20 countries. The Pittsburgh-based chain completed the $2.5 billion deal to acquire the sneaker chain on Monday, Sept. 8. Dick's will keep Foot Locker's brands, including Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, Champs Sports, WSS, and atmos. Tragedy Hits College Basketball As 22-Year-Old Star Division I Player Drowns A college basketball player has died after drowning while swimming over the weekend, officials confirmed. Police in Herriman, Utah, said emergency crews were called to a reservoir around 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 after a swimmer went under and did not resurface. A bystander tried to help but was unable to pull the man from the water. The bystander was hospitalized and is expected to recover.
