An Orange County man was found dead in a lake after his kayak overturned during a fishing trip at a Sullivan County campground over the Fourth of July weekend, police said.
The incident happened at Mongaup Pond Campground, located at 231 Mongaup Pond Rd. in the Town of Rockland, where troopers responded at around 8:48 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, following a report of an overturned kayak, according to New York State Police.
Police said Scott N. Meyer, 56, of Pine Island, had left his campsite sometime between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to go fishing in his kayak.

Nashaan Howard, 41, of Schenectady, got eight years in state prison in exchange for pleading guilty to second-degree drug possession, the Albany County District Attorney’s office said Thursday, July 2.

Marc Inman, 56, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to first-degree drug possession, the Albany County District Attorney’s office said.
