West Point Cadet Dies In Drowning Accident
A West Point cadet died while on leave in what police say was an accidental incident.
Havin Morris, age 21, of Pleasanton, California, a student at West Point in Orange County in the town of Highlands, drowned on Monday, March 25, while on leave in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
“Cadet Morris was a valued member of the Corps of Cadets, committed to serving his country as an Army Officer," said West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland. "The entire West Point community offers our heartfelt condolences to the Morris family."

A New York man is among two people facing federal charges for allegedly conning commercial developers out of millions of dollars to fund a lavish lifestyle.
Long Island resident Joseph Malvasio, age 65, of Bridgehampton and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is named in an indictment unsealed by the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District on Thursday, Aug. 10.
According to prosecutors, Malvasio conspired with 57-year-old Gregg Marcus, of Bay Harbor Islands, Florida, to run an advance-fee scheme through their business, Global Capital Partners Fund LLC.

Man Critically Injured After Car Crashes Into Truck On Long Island Expressway
A man was seriously injured when a car crashed into a truck overnight on the Long Island Expressway, according to authorities.
It happened around 1:35 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 in Dix Hills.
Koray Kurulgan, age 30, was operating a 2005 MINI Cooper eastbound on the expressway, near Exit 52, when the vehicle crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder, Suffolk County Police said.
Kurulgan, of Staten Island, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in critical condition, police said.

More Than 190,000 Ceiling Fans Recalled Because Blades May Fly Off
More than 190,000 popular ceiling fans sold at Home Depot have been recalled nationwide because the fans' blades may fly off while in use.
King of Fans, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida, company announced the recall of its 54-inch Hampton Bay Mara ceiling fans, due to the detaching blades, according to a statement from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
According to the commission, of the 47 reports of detached blades, two of the blades struck people, and four blades caused property damage.

Long Island's MacArthur Airport Adds More Florida Flights
More flights will go to Florida from Long Island's MacArthur Airport starting in November.
The flight will run through March, according to the Town Of Islip.
The flight schedule includes ones to Fort Lauderdale throughout the year, not seasonally, and an increase in Orlando flights from one to two times a day, every day but Tuesday,
Frontier will also add flights to Tampa, West Palm Beach, and Fort Myers, and year-round to Raleigh-Durham and Atlanta, formerly seasonal destinations.
