A Long Island man admitted to strangling a woman to death in a car and leaving her body by a dumpster, authorities announced.
Andrew Avila, age 26, pleaded guilty to the charges against him on Tuesday, March 2, according to the Nassau County District Attorney, over a year after the Valentine’s Day death of Rebecca Carlson, age 39.

A Long Island man has been charged with murder a year after his victim was brutally beaten behind a family entertainment center and eventually succumbed to his injuries, officials said.
On Monday, Dec. 18, 62-year-old Dennis Ray (also known as “Midnight), faced his arraignment, a charge of second-degree murder, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.
The new charge comes over a year since Ray, a resident of Roosevelt, was originally indicted for the April 2022 incident on assault and robbery charges.

Years after a woman was found strangled to death in a wooded area near a Long Island farm, her killer has finally confessed.
Faustino Cruz-Marquez, age 26, of Manorville, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, May 3, in the death of Maria Carmelina Velasquez-Zhau.
The 37-year-old victim disappeared on July 28, 2020 at the Cosmos Farm in Manorville, where she both worked and lived.
Cruz-Marquez also worked and lived at the farm, according to the Suffolk County DA’s Office.

21-Year-Old Sentenced For Fatally Stabbing Man After Argument At Hempstead Park
A 21-year-old man will spend years in prison for fatally stabbing an acquaintance after an argument at a Long Island park.
Jose Ortiz-Trochez, of Hempstead, was sentenced on Wednesday, Sept. 14, to 19 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for the fatal stabbing of 34-year-old Juan Gabriel Chic-Sian on March 28, 2019, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced.
Ortiz-Trochez stabbed Chic-Sian in the abdomen in Hempstead, at Brierley Park, at about 11:45 p.m., Donnelly said.
Chic-Sian was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A Long Island man has been sentenced for fatally stabbing his sister's boyfriend in 2018.
Roy Christmas, age 40, of Hempstead, was sentenced on Wednesday, Oct. 27, to 19 years in prison in the death of William Pinckney, according to Acting Nassau County District Attorney Joyce Smith.
Christmas pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on Wednesday, Sept. 15, Smith said.

A Long Island man was sentenced for strangling his wife to death in their home last year following an argument.
John Gerges, age 61, of Merrick, was sentenced on Monday, Sept. 13, to 21 years in prison and five years post-release supervision.
On Tuesday, July 20, John Gerges pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the death of 58-year-old Marvat Gerges, according to Acting Nassau County District Attorney Joyce Smith.
The DA's Office said the defendant strangled his wife on Feb. 22, 2020, following a 3 a.m. argument over the cleanliness of their home.
