A landscaper was cutting grass at the 7-Eleven located at 984 Waverly Ave. Thursday afternoon, June 20, when Jorge Sandoval, another landscaper with an alleged past grudge against the man, got out of his vehicle and reportedly stabbed him, said Suffolk County Police.
The victim reportedly used his weed trimmer to fend off the 31-year-old Sandoval and cut Sandoval’s arm in the process, according to the report.
Sandoval allegedly returned to his vehicle and he and the driver attempted to flee, said police.
A co-worker of the victim jumped in front of the vehicle to try to stop them, according to police.
The vehicle was reportedly going slowly and not stopping until a highway patrol officer arrived, said Suffolk County Police.
The victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Sandoval was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report.
Sixth Squad detectives charged Sandoval, of Coram, with second-degree assault.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday, June 21.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
