A Pennsylvania police officer whose death was initially described as a “sudden medical emergency” was strangled to death during a fight, investigators now say.
Michael “Mike” McGeehan, 44, a longtime Middlesex Township police officer and father of five, died following an altercation with 25-year-old Paden Edward Frey on July 11, according to the Lycoming Regional Police Department.
Frey, of Cogan Station, was arrested at his home without incident early Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 7, with assistance from the Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office, police said.

A Capital Region man originally arrested for exposing himself to underage girls near an elementary school is facing new accusations, authorities said Sunday, Oct. 4.
Tristan Sirchia, 30, of Greenfield, threw a chair into a window while locked up in Saratoga County jail on Wednesday, Sept. 23, the county sheriff’s office said. He caused damage in excess of $1,500, police said.
Sirchia was charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a felony, then arraigned in Milton Town Court and hauled back to county jail, authorities said.

A Capital Region teenager attempted to start a fire at a local grocery store, then threatened people with a knife, police said.
Samuel W. Carter, 18, of Providence, was arrested following the chaotic scene at a Milton shopping center next to Saratoga County Airport, the county sheriff’s office said Monday, Oct. 5.
Carter first took a quart of oil from a Hannaford grocery store around 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, then poured it onto the bathroom floor and a cardboard box, police said. He then set them on fire, intentionally damaging the business, according to investigators.

Jonathan Hunter Kramer, 21, of Valencia, knowingly received a semiautomatic rifle and rifle ammunition on Saturday, Sept. 12, knowing they would be used to commit a felony or federal terrorism crime, including supporting ISIS, a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh charged.

Kelvin L. Montana, 52, of Brooklyn, had hidden the coke in his vehicle while traveling on I-87 through Albany, New York State Police said Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Anthony M. Lucarelli, 21, of Halfmoon, was charged Saturday, Oct. 3 with second-degree assault for the attack on the child, who was under 7 years old, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s office said.

Pennsylvania’s measles outbreak has surpassed 1,000 confirmed cases and now includes five deaths, state health officials announced Monday, Oct. 5.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 1,004 cases across 39 counties so far in 2026 — up 27 cases since Friday, Oct. 2.
There have been 198 hospitalizations tied to the outbreak, according to the department. Nearly 20 percent of people identified by the state with measles have been hospitalized.

A Capital Region man was found in possession of child porn and an illegal gun following a search Thursday, Oct. 1, police said.
Scott Hammond, 38, of Nassau, was not allowed to own the weapon because he has a previous felony conviction, New York State Police said Monday, Oct. 5.
Troopers began investigating Hammond for child porn back in 2024, eventually leading to a search of his home on Thursday, authorities said. During that search, investigators also found a loaded long gun, according to state police.

A Capital Region man was killed in an ATV crash in the Adirondack Park over the weekend, police announced Monday, Oct. 5.
William L. French, 55, of South Glens Falls, was riding on the Deer Valley Club trails through Indian Lake in Hamilton County on Saturday, Oct. 3, New York State Police said.
French was on a 2021 Suzuki ATV when he struck a culvert pipe around 4:30 p.m., causing him to fly off the vehicle, authorities said.
