Police: Speeding Driver Loses Control, Crashes Into Van Outside Busy Route 17 Dunkin' Donuts
A driver was speeding Wednesday morning when her car careened off Route 17 and crashed into a construction van outside a Dunkin' Donuts in Carlstadt, authorities said. Neighboring Biggie’s Clam Bar was closed, but the Dunkin’ Donuts was busy with patrons when the Honda Civic veered off the roadway and slammed into the empty van in the mini-shopping center parking lot near Division Avenue around 8:15 a.m., Detective Sgt. John Cleary said. Carlstadt firefighters extricated the driver, who was hospitalized with neck and back injuries, Cleary said. The Honda was severely damaged, he said.

Biggie's Clam Bar has closed its Ramsey location. The family-owned eatery opened six years ago on Route 17 southbound, attached to the Best Western. Biggie's announced the closing Saturday on its Facebook page, where customers began grieving the Football Sundays, food, chef and more. The restaurant began as a push cart in Hoboken before owner Joseph Yaccarino opened a storefront on Madison Street, in 1946. Police: Hasbrouck Heights Student-Athletes, Driver Hospitalized In Route 17 School Bus Crash
Several Hasbrouck Heights High School athletes and their school bus driver were taken to the hospital after being rear-ended by a pick-up truck on Route 17 south in Lodi Tuesday, authorities said. "All injuries appear to be minor," Lodi Police Lt. Robert Salerno told Daily Voice following the incident near Magic Touch Car Wash. Salerno did not know where the students were coming from and was unsure exactly how many students were injured. All lanes had been reopened as of 8:15 p.m. The incident was being investigated by the Bergen County Sheriff's Office.

UPDATE: Firefighters freed an Allendale landscape company driver whose leg was pinned when his truck landed on its side in a Monday afternoon crash on Route 17 in Paramus. The 1 p.m. collision involved the Borst Landscaping box truck, an Audi sedan and a utility pole in front of the Midas Muffler shop right before Kalisa Way on the northbound highway, responders said. A 36-year-old Mahwah man with a cane was struck and injured by the passenger-side mirror of a pickup truck when he tried to cross busy Route 17, authorities said. NJ State Police Pull Over Speeding Car, Find Passenger In Labor
Imagine the shock of State Police who chased a speeding car up Route 17, then drew their guns when the driver finally pulled over on a Ridgewood street -- and found a passenger in labor. The brief pursuit began around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on the northbound highway. The driver took the Linwood Avenue exit, headed to The Valley Hospital about a half-mile away. Troopers pulled their guns after the driver eventually stopped because they didn't know whether the pair was armed. Once they discovered the circumstances, the troopers provided an escort up Linwood Avenue to the hospital.

Driver, 78, Slams Sedan Into Route 17 Mercedes Dealership, Closes Showroom
A 78-year-old Maywood woman escaped serious injuries when her Mercedes slammed into a Route 17 dealership in Paramus, although the showroom had to temporarily close for repairs. Fears were raised when an aluminum support beam buckled and a window panel 40 to 50 feet up the side of the Prestige Motors building on southbound Route 17 shattered, said Kenneth Ehrenberg, the Paramus police and fire chief. Van Atop Car Carrier Slams Into Trestle, Closes Route 17 In Rutherford
A van was knocked off a vehicle carrier and caught fire after it slammed into a train trestle Tuesday night, closing Route 17 in Rutherford for hours, responders said. No injuries were reported in the 8:30 p.m. mishap. Borough, NJ Transit and state DOT inspectors were checking the bridge to make sure it was still structurally sound. A search continued for the hit-and-run driver whose car struck a 56-year-old East Rutherford man on northbound Route 17 in Carlstadt, breaking his leg, authorities said Tuesday.
