Alleged Eavesdropping Costs $95 Million As Apple Reaches Siri Settlement
Apple will pay a $95 million settlement regarding allegations that its virtual assistant, Siri, eavesdropped on users without their consent, according to multiple reports.
The settlement, filed in federal court in Oakland, California this week, addresses a lawsuit that dates back five years and must be approved by a US District judge at a hearing on Friday, Feb. 14, Bloomberg Law reports.
The lawsuit claims that Siri was activated to record conversations even when users did not use the launching phrase, “Hey, Siri.”

Joe Fiordaliso, Former Livingston Mayor, Public Utilities President, Dies At 78
Joe Fiordaliso, the longtime president of the Board of Public Utilities and three-time mayor of Livingston, died at the age of 78, Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Thursday, Sept. 7.
No cause of death was provided. Fiordaliso was appointed to Murphy's cabinet in 2018, having previously served as a commissioner on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities since 2005.

A local media outlet was able to return $2,000 to a Paterson family whose contractor bailed on them time and time again.
Lina Aguilar, who is battling Lupus, first hired the contractor last year to repair her leaking roof and gutters, ABC7 reports. She gave him $2,000 -- but he didn't show on the start date -- or at all.
