A dozen or so youngsters came to the library for story time, games of pumpkin bowling and a scavenger hunt -- plus dessert.
Allowing the children to come in costume early helped spread out the festivities, said Wanaque Children's Librarian Denise Carrozza, dressed as a book fairy for the event to promote reading.
"Having had four daughters I know if [Halloween] is on a weekday, they want to get up and get right out to the houses," Carrozza told Daily Voice. "I thought this would be a good place for the kids to come and get their start without ringing doorbells."
The children brought home goody bags filled with more treats, donated by Braen Stone Industries Inc.
