Two women were killed in a hit-and-run crash while crossing a Newark street Saturday night, authorities said.
Mariana Elizabeth Valverde Beltran, 58, of Elizabeth, and Maria Isabel DeLosAngeles Salgado Ayala, 61, of Newark, were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Park Avenue and North 7th Street at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, according to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.

A 38-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged with stealing wire from a construction site at the Mount Olive Township Senior Center, authorities announced Friday, June 19.
At 9:48 a.m., on Tuesday, June 9, officers responded to the senior center at 204 Flanders Drakestown Road in Budd Lake for a report of a theft and was met by an electrical contractor who said he was missing copper wire from the construction site, Mount Olive police said.
