: Newark Archdiocese Permanently Closing 10 Schools In Three Counties
The Archdiocese of Newark said Thursday that it is closing a number of its schools in Bergen, Essex and Union counties -- and consolidating them into others -- at the end of the current school year. Factors considered in the closings included "declining enrollment numbers and increasing and unsustainable dependence on archdiocesan funding over time," the archdiocese said. "Consideration also was given to geographic locations and proximity to nearby matched archdiocesan schools that will accommodate new students." A 39-year-old Belleville woman who worked as a receptionist at a Union dental office says that her boss took shots of hard liquor and promoted “party culture,” according to a new lawsuit. Nadia Zevallos was “driven out” of her former workplace at American Dental Center in Union after she complained about her supervisor, Lilly Almeida, for encouraging a “rampant party culture,” according to the suit, filed last Thursday in Union County. These NJ ShopRite Stores Imposing Customer Limit Amid Coronavirus Spread
More than two dozen New Jersey ShopRite stores have implemented customer limits in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus. The maximum number of customers will be roughly 30 percent of the store’s regular maximum occupancy, ShopRite said in a statement. A security guard will be stationed at entrances and exits to track the number of customers coming in and out. Only one entrance per store will remain open. A hammer and knife were recovered and one person was injured in a pair of unrelated lockdowns that had students panicking at Union High School Friday, authorities said. Firefighters were in the 1900 block of Hillside Avenue in Union Sunday night where fire was ripping through a private home. Fire broke out at the home around 6:30 p.m. and the blaze quickly went to multiple alarms. A woman was rescued from a second-floor window of the home, according to a published report. Shannon Reilly Gutches of Bound Brook, previously of Elizabeth, died unexpectedly on Sunday. She was 33 years old. Described as a loving and compassionate woman, she earned a Doctor of Psychology degree from Hofstra University and worked as a child psychologist at Piscataway High School and most recently for the Hillsborough Board of Education.
