Ten Illegal Guns, DJ Equipment, Drugs Seized Father's Day Weekend In Newark
Police in Newark recovered 10 illegal guns and arrested four men, some of whom pointed their firearms at people at threatened to hurt or kill them, all over Father's Day Weekend, authorities said.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara, the following arrests were made:
Melvin Thomas, 23, of East Orange, was arrested near North 12th Street and 6th Avenue on June 19, after police saw him with an unlabeled bottle of 48 Oxycodone pills and a handgun after a traffic stop.

The execution of a search warrant at a home in the East Ward led to the arrests of Justin White, 25, and Julio Rodriguez, 54, on Tuesday, April 26, Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said.

Crackdown Busts 6 With Illegal Weapons Last Weekend In Newark: Police
Six Newark residents were busted with illegal weapons over the weekend as part of a city crackdown that began last December.
Four of those arrests were in the South Ward and two were in the East Ward, Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said.
The following men were arrested Saturday, April 2 in the South Ward, according to O'Hara:
Alfuquan A. McNair, 29, of Washington, NJ; Elijah Harden, 31, of East Orange; and a 17-year-old male from Irvington. Each suspect faces charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, among other charges.

Orange Man Towed, Junked 13 Vehicles Using Bogus Insurance Papers In North Jersey, Police Say
A 34-year-old New Jersey man was charged with theft after having more than a dozen vehicles towed and junked using bogus insurance papers, authorities said.
Anthony Greene, of Orange, walked up to older model cars parked on Essex County streets and collected their vehicle identification numbers from Oct. 22, 2021, to Nov. 30, 2021, Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said.
After receiving the information, he called tow companies to junk the cars and later put insurance on them, using the location of the theft as his home address, according to O'Hara.

A 35-year-old Morris County man assaulted and robbed another driver who he'd been involved in a car crash with, and then shot at him after being followed into Newark, authorities said.
Kevin M. Winston, 35, of Parsippany, and then victim had gotten into a collision in Jersey City, when Winston robbed and assaulted the victim on Tuesday, Feb. 22, Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O'Hara said.

'No Questions Asked': NJ Buys Back Nearly 1,000 Guns
Authorities collected nearly 1,000 guns during no-questions-asked gun buybacks in Passaic, Essex and Atlantic counties, New Jersey’s top law enforcer said Thursday. They could soon be coming to a location near you.
The firearms came in all sizes, calibers, makes, models and ages, from a pearl-handled derringer to a reported 27 assault weapons.
The total also includes 487 handguns, 281 rifles and shotguns and 146 inoperable weapons and BB/pellet guns, New Jersey Acting Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck said.

A 21-year-old Newark woman was shot and killed while protecting her friend in an incident of domestic violence, news reports say.
Wesley Jean-Marie, of Valley Stream, New York, has been charged in the shooting death of Leeana Cottle, 21, of Newark, late Tuesday, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara.
Cottle allegedly was shot at about 11:30 p.m. on the 200 block of South 10th Street while attempting to shield her friend from 32-year-old Jean-Marie, RLS Media reports.
