Video
)
New Jersey families displaced by Hurricane Ida's wrath are apparently being evicted by the hotels housing them temporarily, and on Monday took their frustration to the city mayor himself. Some Oakwood Plaza apartment residents stormed the office of Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage Monday, begging for permanent housing large enough for their families and closer to their jobs and kids' schools, according to the outlet and a Facebook Live by Salaam Ismiall. The video shows the group heading into City Hall planning to speak with Bollwage, who ended up not being there. "We have nowhere to go," on…

Two former employees have accused New York Waterway of dumping raw sewage, oil, fuel, batteries and other waste into the Hudson River, Raritan Bay and other waterways surrounding Manhattan “for years.” After issuing dumping complaints to the company, EPA investigators returned weeks later to find ferry bathrooms that were under investigation “either locked or removed entirely,” a federal whistle-blower lawsuit filed by former NY Waterway fuelers and overnight mechanics Rafi Khatchikian and Ivan Torres alleges. “NY Waterway cynically put out-of-order signs on bathrooms and even removed toile…

19 Unemployment: Will $300 Weekly Benefit Pass?
The number of New Jersey residents who have applied for unemployment benefits has surged to more than 1.5 million since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CARES Act gave workers an extra $600 per week, but expired at July’s end. President Trump’s executive order calling for a new $400 weekly benefit was signed last month. Gov. Murphy then applied for the FEMA Lost Wages Supplemental Assistance Program, the expanded benefit, requesting funding for the weeks of Aug. 1, 8 and 15. If approved, New Jersey residents will receive $300 rather than $400 because the state was already paying wor…

Traffic quickly backed up for miles on Paramus road after the testing site in Bergen Community College parking lots opened at 8 a.m. It was originally scheduled to remain open until 4 p.m. Just after noon, however, a flashing sign on West Century Road alerted motorist that testing was at capacity.
