Man Who Ripped Victim's Pants During Sex Assault On Newark Street Sought By Police
Police seek the public's help in identifying a suspect in a sexual assault in Newark. The assault occurred on Jan 13 at Court Street and University Avenue, Newark police said. He allegedly grabbed the woman, ripping her pants. He is described as Hispanic, about 18 years old, 5-foot-6 inches tall, with a slim build. 'Shocked And Disgusted': 8 Injured In Newark Shootings, Police Say
Eight people were injured in a series of Newark shootings Tuesday night, authorities said. The first incident happened around 6:25 p.m. near Lincoln Street and Court Street, local and county officials said. Two men were injured, including one critically. Just before 8:10 p.m., two boys, ages 15 and 17, were found by police having been shot while riding in a stolen car in the area of Quitman Street near Montgomery Street. Police in Newark are seeking the public's help in locating two people wanted for questioning in a shooting investigation. A man was shot near Court Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 12:20 p.m. on July 11 during an argument with the pair pictured above, Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said. Suspect In Irvington Teen's Killing Arrested
A 22-year-old Newark man wanted for the slaying of an Irvington youth is in custody, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Basil Thomas has been charged in the murder of Asahiah Lawton, an 18-year-old from Irvington. He also faces weapons offenses. Authorities allege Thomas stabbed Lawton late Wednesday on Court Street in Newark during a fight over a woman they both liked. Lawton died at University Hospital early Thursday morning. UPDATE, July 26: A man identified as a suspect in the killing has been arrested, authorities announced Friday. Click here for more. An 18-year-old from Irvington was stabbed to death during a dispute early Thursday in Newark, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Asahiah Lawton and a 22-year-old were in the 200 block of Court Street shortly after midnight when Lawton was stabbed. Major Street In Newark To Partly Close Sunday Night
A section of Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard (the former Broad Street) in Newark will be closed Sunday night for the city's Ramadan Commemoration, Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. The street will be closed from Court Street to Lafayette Street from 6 to 10 p.m., Ambrose said. Drivers should plan an alternate route and allow extra time for traveling near the area.
