A bedridden West Milford woman's home had quickly begun filling with smoke after her dog accidentally ignited a fire on her kitchen stove. "This was close to being a fatal," one responder said. A Wayne police officer amazingly survived without serious injuries after an out-of-control Jeep skidded off Route 23, went airborne and crashed into her cruiser, authorities said. Officer Kimberly Fryer was taken by the Wayne Memorial First Aid Squad to Chilton Hospital for treatment following the crash in the Wayne Acura parking lot on the southbound highway shortly after 11 p.m. last Friday, March 3. Hawthorne Man Dies After Falling Through Ice At Monksville Reservoir
UPDATE: A Hawthorne man who fell into the Monksville Reservoir in Ringwood while apparently ice fishing Friday afternoon died a short time later, authorities said. Robert R. Trojanowski, 54, was taken by ambulance to Chilton Hospital in Pequannock, as were two Ringwood police officers who jumped in to save him. Trojanowski fell through the icy lake about 100 feet from shore in the Long Pond Ironworks State Park sometime around 2 p.m., responders said.
