Shock and sorrow spread with the news that a young Westwood man was accidentally dragged and killed by a subway train at the Columbus Circle station in Manhattan. Joseph Ancona, 20, apparently tried to board a southbound No. 1 train when his clothing got caught in a subway door at the station off 59th Street around 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, city police said. “The victim was then dragged and struck by [another] train,” the NYPD reported. : Laughing Homeless Man Derails NYC Subway In West Village, Authorities Say
A Manhattan subway train derailed Sunday morning after a laughing homeless man tossed construction materials onto the tracks, authorities said. Three of the 30 or so passengers on board sustained injuries in the 8:17 a.m. derailment, which left the uptown A train stuck about 100 feet into the tunnel at 14th Street and Eighth Avenue in the West Village, they said. Environmentalists Explain Hundreds Of Dead Fish Floating In Hudson River
Hundreds of dead fish recently found floating in the Hudson River are no cause for concern, environmentalists say. Their deaths, in fact, are the result of a "naturally occurring phenomenon," according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). The dead bunker were first spotted floating between 59th Street and the George Washington Bridge on the Manhattan side of the river.
