A Jersey City landlord says the COVID-19 moratorium on evictions has kept her from booting a renter claiming to be a Santeria doctor who was found with nearly two dozen farm animals -- dead and alive -- in the house, according to a new report by the Daily Beast. Goats, Birds Seized In Jersey City Cruelty Incident Possibly Involving Witchcraft
Goats and birds were surrendered in an animal cruelty incident Thursday in Jersey City, officials said. Officers saw the animals in the home at 141 Van Horne St., in the afternoon hours. Unconfirmed and initial police reports cited possible witchcraft, along with dead and alive animals on the property "The City is working with the Liberty Humane Society on the safe surrender of the animals," Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said. The JCPD’s investigation is ongoing.

Jersey City Man Attacks Woman, 2 Kids With Knife Before Killing Himself, Authorities Say
A Jersey City man attacked a woman and two children with a knife before fatally turning the weapon on himself Monday morning, authorities said. The unidentified 54-year-old man was found dead with an apparent knife wound to his throat on the second floor of an apartment at 76 Van Wagenen Ave., around 7:15 a.m., Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said. Authorities: Man Breaking JC Hotel Windows Dies, Westwood Friend Charged With Criminal Mischief
One man died and another was arrested after both were found breaking hotel windows in Jersey City in the early morning hours Tuesday, police said. Officers were called to The Westin at 479 Washington Boulevard on reports of two men breaking windows on the 21st floor around 4:35 a.m., Jersey City Spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said. Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive man lying on the lobby stairs. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead, Wallace-Scalcione said. : Jersey City Men Shot By Police In Fireworks Incident File Federal Suit
A pair of men shot by police in a 2019 fireworks incident have filed a federal suit against Jersey City and some of its officials. Devonte Moore and Shaquan Rush were in a group of young men shooting Roman Candles at each other in the Arlington Gardens Public housing complex on July 1, 2019, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.
