Tuckahoe Station Cafe, formerly located at 111 Lake St. in Tuckahoe, closed for good on Saturday, Sept. 21, according to an announcement on its social media pages.  The eatery's owners did not give a specific reason for the closure but said it was a "difficult decision." Car Engulfed In Flames On Taconic Parkway In Hawthorne A vehicle fire prompted an early morning response on the Taconic State Parkway. The blaze happened on Saturday, Oct. 19 around 8:30 a.m. in Northern Westchester, when an SUV caught on fire on the southbound side in Hawthorne. Arriving fire crews soon found the vehicle consumed by flames and quickly hosed it down, putting the blaze out completely.  The response took around an hour and sent plumes of smoke up into the air on the parkway, as seen in images of the fire released on the Hawthorne Fire Department's social media page.  No injuries were reported.

Driveway Paving Scammers Targeting Residents In Brewster Authorities in the Hudson Valley are warning residents to be on the lookout for scammers claiming to be from a paving company.  The Putnam County Sheriff's Office detailed the scam in an announcement on Thursday, Oct. 17, saying that the suspects targeted a resident in Brewster.  According to authorities, two men approached a resident and claimed to be from a paving company that had leftover asphalt from a previous job. Shootings, Murders, Other Crimes In Decline In Westchester, Officials Say Westchester residents can breathe a little easier—crime rates are in decline across the county, including shootings, murders, and robberies, according to officials.  In an announcement on Wednesday, Oct. 16, Westchester County Executive George Latimer unveiled data from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services showing a decline in crime rates.  According to the report, year-to-date shootings are down 34.5 percent from 29 shootings in January to September 2023 to 19 shootings in January to September 2024. Car Rolls Over On Road In Mahopac, Causes Temporary Closure One lane of a Hudson Valley road was temporarily closed after a car flipped, firefighters said. The crash happened in Putnam County on Friday, Oct. 18 just before 8 a.m., when a vehicle flipped at the intersection of Hill Street and Lakeside Road in Mahopac, according to the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department.  Arriving first responders evaluated the driver. However, they declined any medical attention.  One lane of traffic was closed for a short time while crews operated at the crash scene.  The cause of the crash was not released.
