Bergen County Paramedic, 22, Killed In Crash Had 'Just Begun American Dream,' Obit Says Services have been finalized for Marcin Bednarz, a 22-year-old paramedic from Bergen County who died in a New York crash on Sunday, April 28. Marcin, a paramedic with the Wallington Fire Department, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Arden Valley Road in Tuxedo, N.Y. at 3:18 p.m., according to a New York State Police report. His obituary on the Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service website says he had "just begun his journey of his part of the American dream." The fire apparently broke out on the first floor in back of the two-story Spruce Street building and instantly spread to the second floor and a cockloft -- trapping the victims -- shortly before 9:30 a.m. March 3. A vehicle just outside the brick structure also caught fire. A battalion chief reported heavy fire and smoke right from the get-go. Dog Rescued In Saddle Brook Fire A house fire was extinguished Wednesday afternoon in Saddle Brook. A dog was rescued as Saddle Brook firefighters doused a basement blaze on Elm Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. April 26. Two people also were reportedly treated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters had it knocked down in well under a half hour and under control 20 minutes or so after that. The most serious damage was confined to the basement of the 2½-story, wood-frame home. Passaic House Fire Doused Friends said a woman and her teenage children lost most of their belonging when a July 4th weekend fire damaged their Passaic home. Firefighters quickly got to the Third Street address off Essex Street shortly before 8:30 p.m. and had the fire under control in barely a half-hour. They limited the fire damage to the first floor, where the blaze apparently began, and the second floor, which sustained heavy smoke damage. No injuries were reported.
