An Elizabeth man is facing charges after allegedly stealing more than $1.6 million from a senior citizen in a years-long financial scheme, authorities said. Between Jan. 2022 and Aug. 2024, 25-year-old Elijah Ray orchestrated a scheme targeting an elderly family friend, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel said. Bergen Man Admits Conning Seniors Out Of $1.6M While Awaiting Sentencing For Similar Scam
A Bergen County man admitted in federal court that he ran a mail-fraud scheme that conned senior citizens out of more than $1.6 million while awaiting sentencing for his role in a similar fraud, authorities said. Ryan Young, 40, of Upper Saddle River, had pleaded guilty in February 2018 to participating in a large-scale international mail-fraud scheme that fleeced victims of $50 million. Murphy Signs Bills That Will Reduce Wait Time In MVC Lines For Some NJ Residents
A pair of bills signed into law by Gov. Phil Murphy this will save the state's senior residents time in line at Motor Vehicle Commission agencies. One bill -- both signed Thursday -- gives new state residents 120 days (as opposed to 60) to get New Jersey licenses and get their registrations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The other allows agencies to use old photos of drivers age 65 and older more than eight years. The latter also applies to those with certain medical conditions who cannot wear face masks. Bergenfield Driver Plows Older-Model Sedan Through Garage Wall
A Bergenfield driver refused medical attention after she inadvertently hit the gas, sending her car through the back of her garage on Wednesday. The 82-year-old Pleasant Avenue driver was none the worse for wear, police said, although they couldn’t say as much for the attached garage. Her 2004 Ford Taurus had to be towed. Senior Trio Emerges Unscathed After SUV Flips In Palisades Park Crash
Three New Milford seniors all walked away without injury after their SUV was knocked through a fence and plunged several feet, landing on its roof atop a Palisades Park apartment's electrical box. The 70-year-old driver of the Honda CRV told police he’d stopped on West Palisades Boulevard and was headed across Grand Avenue when the driver of a Toyota Camry sped up, clipping the back of his vehicle.
