Beloved North Jersey HS Teacher Fady Hanna Dies: 'We Feel Horrible'
A Passaic County high school is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved teachers. Fady Hanna, an English teacher at Manchester Regional High School in Haledon since 2020, was remembered by Schools Superintendent Gary Lubisco Jr. as "an engaging teacher," who made students feel excited to attend class. State Closes Newark Charter School With 2 Weeks Left
State officials have closed a Newark charter school with just two weeks left in the year, officials announced. The nearly 700 students at University Heights Charter School (UCHS), a pre-K-8 public charter school in Newark, were told on June 1, the New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association said Friday, June 3. One Warren County high school has temporarily transitioned to fully remote learning after a weekend COVID-19 outbreak. Students and staff at Warren Hills Regional High School in Washington Township will participate in fully remote classes from Tuesday, March 23 through Wednesday, April 7, district officials said in an email. All four Bergen County Technical District high schools will be closed to on-site instruction beginning this Monday through "at least" Jan. 15 because of positive coronavirus tests, officials announced Friday. Newark public school students will have to wait until next year for in-person learning due to COVID-19. A Mercer County school is the latest to go all-remote after a COVID-19 case was reported. Hopewell Valley Central High School Central High School in Pennington will be going remote Thursday and Friday, though all other schools in the district will remain open, according to a notice posted on the district's website. All after-school activities will be cancelled and no students or staff will be allowed in the building until Monday morning for a deep-cleaning and contact-tracing, the letter says. Marist High School in Bayonne will be closing in June. Declining enrollment and financial deficits ultimately forced the Catholic prep school's doors shut, President Peter G. Kane said in an announcement. Hopatcong students could be home for the rest of the week due to a series of electrical malfunctions.
