Dog Rescued In Lodi House Fire
A dog was rescued during an early Wednesday evening house fire in Lodi. No injuries were reported in the two-alarm Harrison Avenue blaze, which broke out in a second-floor room of the brick single-family home around 5:20 p.m. Firefighters had it doused within 15 minutes. Mutual aid was provided at the scene or in coverage by firefighters from Hasbrouck Heights, Rochelle Park, Saddle Brook and Wallington. Damien Danis took the photos and contributed to this story. A longtime Saddle Brook resident who was killed in a fiery wrong-way crash in Sussex County last week was laid to rest. Janet Esser, 58, was driving a Ford Escape that crossed the double-yellow lines and crashed head-on into a Freightliner box truck on Ross Corner Sussex Road (Route 565) in Wantage Township last Wednesday, May 11, authorities said. He called himself “Brady Johnson” and said he was as old as the underage friends he made online. Douglas Hoehn, a 74-year-old retired college professor from Wyckoff, can’t reach any minors from the Bergen County Jail, where he remained while authorities searched for other possible victims. What began as a basement fire severely damaged a Maywood two-family house. The two-alarm blaze broke out on East Hunter Avenue just off Maywood Avenue around 4 p.m. Friday, April 1. A driver escaped serious injury in a wild rollover crash on the northbound Garden State Parkway. An explosion during a pre-dawn fire that gutted an Elmwood Park home knocked three firefighters to the ground, authorities said.
