Repeat Package Pirate From NY Nabbed By Rutherford PD In FedEx Thefts
A habitual offender with an apparent affinity for FedEx packages was identified and charged by Rutherford police who caught him in the act, authorities said. A Rutherford police officer responding to a call of a FedEx box burglary on May 8 spotted Thomas Mensah trying to crack open another one, Police Chief John Russo said. Mensah, 25, of Flushing, NY fled in a vehicle with stolen license plates, the chief said. Teen Jailed In Head-On That Injured Rutherford Officer
UPDATE: An 18-year-old thief from Newark who injured a Rutherford police officer when he rammed a stolen sedan head-on into a cruiser remained jailed on a host of offenses. Nyaad A. Johnson was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, as well as resisting arrest, burglary, receiving stolen property and employing a juvenile in a crime. Officer Stuart Madison, meanwhile, was treated at Hackensack University Medical Center before being released later in the day. A Bergen County hairstylist to the stars is charged with trafficking more than 450 child sex abuse images, authorities said. Daniel Koye, 40, of Rutherford, was seized by Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents on Jan. 28 in Atlanta after detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office obtained a warrant for his arrest, they said. Motorized Bicycle Rider, 64, Seriously Injured In Rutherford Crash
A 64-year-old Rutherford man was hospitalized with serious injuries after he was struck on a motorized bicycle Thursday afternoon, authorities said. A 62-year-old male driver hit the victim in a borough crosswalk while turning at West Passaic and Mortimer avenues shortly before 5 p.m., Police Chief John Russo said. The victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with significant lower leg injuries that Russo said weren't considered life-threatening. Borough firefighters cleaned up a fuel spill, the chief noted. The driver was cited for failing to stop, he said.

A robber held up a Rutherford bank Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. The black robber – wearing a face mask, dark jacket and a hoodie -- entered the Kearny Bank (formerly Kearny Federal Savings Bank) branch at Park and West Newall avenues at 4:15 p.m., Police Chief John Russo said. Rutherford police nabbed two men who’d been going around stealing power tools from hardware stores, authorities said. Detectives were investigating a New Year’s Eve theft of $1,300 worth of tools from Brothers Hardware on Orient Way when the pair returned on Tuesday, Capt. Sean Farrell said. A Jersey City man sexually assaulted an underage girl in Rutherford, authorities charged. Rutherford police contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit after receiving a report that Tyrief Martin, 30, “forcibly sexually assaulted a child under the age of 18 in Rutherford” in January, Prosecutor Mark Musella said Friday.
