Irvington Kayaker Drowns In Raritan Bay
A 64-year-old kayaker and resident of Irvington drowned in Monmouth County, authorities said. At about 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, Keyport police received a 911 call reporting two kayakers in distress in Raritan Bay. Keyport police arrived and observed one kayaker on the shore, who stated that their friend was still in the water. Coast Guard: One Dead After Boat Capsizes On Raritan Bay
One person died after a boat capsized on the Raritan Bay Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard said. A good Samaritan pulled the victim's body from the water after the boat overturned near Keyport around 10 a.m., and immediately began CPR, reports say. There were no other occupants on the 21-foot boat. A Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook 29-foot response boat crew arrived on scene within 10 minutes. The Perth Amboy community is rallying for the family of a 17-year-old boy who drowned in the Raritan Bay Thursday. A GoFundMe intended to help fund a funeral service for Johnny Vasquez had raised $740 as of Friday afternoon. Authorities on Sunday suspended a search for a kayaker who fell into Raritan Bay the day before. Search and rescue crews in New Jersey and on Staten Island searched the water after a passerby rescued two of the victim's companions when all three of their kayaks overturned near the Great Beds Lighthouse in South Amboy. Out-Of-Town Teens Struck By Lifeguard Vehicle On Long Beach Island
A beach patrol vehicle hit two out-of-town girls who were sunning themselves in Ship Bottom, authorities said. The Pennsylvania girls -- one 14, the other 15 -- were airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where they were treated before being released to their families, borough police said.
