Popeyes, Arby's Replace Former NJ Supermarket, 'Huge Crowd' Expected
Fast food fans in Warren County have waited long enough. A Popeyes and an Arby's are opening at 680 Memorial Pkwy. in Phillipsburg, at the site of a former Ahart supermarket. The Popeyes will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. while the Arby's will be opening on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Zach Liptak, owner of Phillipsburg-based ZRL Real Estate and Construction oversaw the project, which began in June 2022 when the original supermarket was torn down. A former Popeyes employee has filed a lawsuit against the Essex County restaurant, claiming the restaurant frequently discriminated against him because he as Black. Wesley Hammonds, a Jersey City resident, filed the lawsuit last month in Essex County Superior Court against Belleville Chicken, LLC, which operations the location in Belleville and the store's general manager. Hammonds had worked at Popeyes from June 2020 until May 2022, when he was terminated. Popeyes is opening a location on the Jersey Shore. The fast-food eatery is slated to replaced the former Makoto restaurant in Stafford Square Plaza on Route 72 east, according to the Sand Paper. Newark Man Charged In Trio Of Restaurant Burglaries
A 30-year-old Newark man has been charged with stealing hundreds of dollars in connection with three restaurant burglaries. A man later identified as Nathaniel Hartwell shattered the drive-thru window of McDonald's on 18th Avenue around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose. SEE ANYTHING? A masked gunman fled with $3,500 from the Popeye's on Route 46 in Lodi late Monday, authorities said. Employees were in the restaurant when the robber entered around 11:30 p.m. wearing a black ski mask, black jacket and boots -- and carrying a gun, Lt. Robert Salerno said.
