A driver who led police on a pursuit through two counties struck a vehicle before crashing near a local home and fleeing through yards, reports say. The Sunday morning chase began after the driver ignored a Hillside police officer attempting to pull them over and sped away, RLS Media reports. The suspect continued into Irvington where they hit another car at the Wolf Place and Naden Avenue intersection around 9:35 a.m., the report says. Boonton Police Pursuit Ends In Newark Crash: Two Caught, Gun Reportedly Waved Out Window
Two people were in custody and one remained at large after a winding, pre-dawn Boonton pursuit Sunday ended in a crash in Newark, authorities said. The pursuit first went through several towns to Hillside and then back north through several streets into Newark, responders said. Three occupants bailed out after the Toyota Camry with New York license plates crashed at the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Jacob Street around 2:20 a.m., they said. UPDATE: A multi-agency pursuit Thursday night that began in upstate New York ended 100 miles away in Paramus Thursday night after a Brooklyn man rammed two police cars with a U-Haul van that he was driving on two front rims and a rear flat tire, police said. Newark Man Charged With Manslaughter In Crash That Killed Correctional Officer
A 24-year-old Newark man has been charged with aggravated manslaughter for causing a fatal crash Saturday while fleeing from police, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Police in Hillside attempted to pull over a Nissan Altima driven by Dashawn Walton around 2:30 a.m. According to authorities, Walton fled the wrong way down Aldine Street and into Newark. A Franklin Lakes police officer wasn't seriously injured in a crash with a stolen SUV during a pre-dawn pursuit Thursday, authorities said. A Highwoods Drive resident called police just after 2:45 a.m. to report someone trying to break into his vehicle, Capt. John Bakelaar said.
