Two Charged In Crash That Injured Kearny Moped Operator On Super Bowl Sunday: Prosecutor
Two Kearny residents were arrested and charged on Monday, Dec. 2 after a moped operator was seriously injured in a crash on Super Bowl Sunday authorities said. On Sunday, Feb. 11, a moped operator was struck by a cargo van in the area of Harrison Avenue and Bergen Avenue in Kearny, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Tristan Lozada, an 8-year-old Sparta resident died after battling brain cancer on Monday, Oct. 28, according to his obituary from the Shook Funeral Home website. Tristan had moved to Sparta from Newark and enjoyed dancing, Halloween, and playing Roblox on his iPad, his obituary reads. The search for a missing 65-year-old man came for a tragic end early this week. The body of Orlando Chamorro, who had been reported missing out of North Arlington on Friday, Aug. 2, was recovered from the Passaic River on Monday, Aug. 5, Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelley said. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force responded to Main Street and the Belleville Turnpike on reports of a body in the water that morning, where firefighters made the recovery, Fennelley said. A 49-year-old Newark is facing charges after fatally striking a pedestrian and leaving the scene on Friday, May 31, authorities said. At 3 a.m., a vehicle driven by Ruben Dominguez struck and killed Mario Calvache, 34, at Wilson Avenue and Hensler Street, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Three young teenagers who ran after one of them crashed a stolen car into a tree during a Lyndhurst police pursuit left a handgun in the vehicle, authorities said. In nothing short of a miracle, no serious injuries were reported after a gas tanker truck exploded into a huge fireball on Route 17 Monday morning. A used car dealership and many of its two dozen or so vehicles were destroyed in the five-alarm blaze after the truck and a passenger vehicle collided near the U-turn at the White Castle on the highway's southbound side in Hasbrouck Heights at 5:43 a.m. Jan. 8.
