NJ Transit Detective Alexis Melendez Dies
Members of the NJ Transit Police Department were mourning the loss of one of their own. Detective Alexis Melendez, of New Egypt, died on Thursday, Jan. 26. He was 51 years old. A cause of death was not announced. Melendez started in patrol in Newark, but his "outstanding police work shined," and he was reassigned to a plain clothes position, his department said. Arrest Made In Deadly Jersey City Train Station Stabbing
A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Friday night's deadly train station stabbing in Jersey City, authorities announced Saturday, Jan. 29. Anthony Bell, 37, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Kenneth Brown, 49, on the platform of the Danforth Avenue Light Rail Station, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Brown was found with a stab wound to his upper body at the train platform around 11:35 p.m., Suarez said. : $3K Offered In Newark Penn Station Cold Case Attack
A $3,000 reward is being offered by the NJ Transit Police Department for anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect wanted in connection with an unprovoked assault outside Newark Penn Station. Surveillance footage shows a man being punched in the face by the younger suspect as he approached the Raymond Plaza East exit of Newark Penn Station around 7:20 p.m. March 6, officials said. NJ Transit K9 Officer Magnus Dies
The NJ Transit Police Department is mourning the loss of K-9 officer Magnus. The canine, whose name means great in Latin, served as part of an explosives detection team along with his partner, Officer Benjamin Zink. Magnus served for 10 dedicated years and died due to sudden medical complications. "Together the pair helped to protect and secure the NJ TRANSIT system and all within the great state of New Jersey," NJ Transit police said. Authorities in Newark are seeking a man who they say knocked a victim cold in an unprovoked attack at Newark Penn Station. Surveillance footage shows the man hitting a victim on March 6 near the Plaza East entrance around 7:20 p.m., NJ Transit police said. The victim suffered a head injury as a result, police said.
