Why New Jersey Is Suing TikTok
New Jersey has joined a group of states suing social media giant TikTok, alleging the video-sharing app is highly-addictive and harmful to children. The complaint, filed temporarily under seal in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division, Essex County, alleges multiple violations of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (CFA), New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said. Unlicensed Driver, 25, Wanted In Deadly Fourth Of July Crash On Route 287: Prosecutor
A 25-year-old New York woman has been named "Fugitive of the Month" in one New Jersey county. Angely Betancourt has been charged with reckless death by auto and causing death while driving unlicensed in the July 4, 2022 crash that left one person dead on Route 287 southbound access ramp to Route 78 west in Bedminster, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said. The crash, which happened just before 12:25 p.m., was investigated by New Jersey State Police. The department did not immediately return Daily Voice's request for comment.

A New Jersey woman is facing federal charges for trying to smuggle more than 26 pounds of marijuana disguised as Christmas gifts into the U.S. Virgin Islands, authorities said. East Orange Man Gets Four+ Years For Stealing Checks From Mail: Feds
A 23-year-old East Orange man was sentenced to more than four years in prison on Tuesday, Oct. 1, after admitting to stealing checks from the mail, authorities said. From January 2020 to March 2022, Baba Diakite, Nasir Johnson and others conspired to steal checks from the mail in communities across New Jersey, US Attorney Philip Sellinger said. Diakite and his conspirators used misappropriated keys belonging to the U.S. Postal Service to access mail collection receptacles and steal envelopes that contained checks, Sellinger said.
