Authorities turned to the public for help identifying the hit-and-run vehicle. Driver In NJ Turnpike Crash Under the Influence, State Police Charge A driver was under the influence of drugs when he crashed his sedan on the New Jersey Turnpike in Bergen County, State Police said. The 24-year-old driver from Staten Island was headed south on the western spur in Carlstadt when he crashed his Lexus NX at 5:44 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, NJSP Sergeant First Class Philip Curry said. Firefighters extricated the driver, who refused medical attention at the scene, the sergeant said. State Police charged him with DUI and issued several motor vehicle summonses, he said.

Morning Rush: Tractor-Trailer Fire Jams NJ Turnpike Rush Into NYC A tractor-trailer burst into flames on the I-95 approach from the New Jersey Turnpike to the George Washington Bridge, clogging the Tuesday morning rush. The driver got the rig onto the shoulder of the local lanes near mile marker 117, roughly two-tenths of a mile before the Ridgefield Park exit, shortly after 6:30 a.m. May 16. Flames spread along the bottom of the trailer as the driver got out safely. Black smoke could be seen for miles. Ridgefield Park firefighters doused the blaze. No injuries were immediately reported. New Jersey State Police are investigating the cause.
